Seeking Assistance to Identify Human Jaw
A human mandible (lower jaw) was found in a wooded area in Southwest Atlanta on May 28, 2009. No other skeletal parts have been found. The jaw is believed to be that of a teenager or young adult. At this time, the race and sex have not been determined. It is thought that death occurred within the past year or so, possibly more recently.
The 3rd molar teeth ("Wisdom teeth," the teeth furthest back on the jaw) have not yet erupted. All other teeth are permanent teeth. Three teeth (Tooth 18, Tooth 20, and Tooth 31) had fillings as shown in the diagram below.
If you have knowledge of a missing teenager or young adult (older than 10 and less than 23 years of age) who may have had dental work as described above, please contact the Fulton County Medical Examiner Investigations Section at 404-730-4400 and reference Case Number 09-0952.
We have checked available databases of missing persons and have not yet been able to establish any leads as to the identity of this person.
